The Under Appreciated Bob Dylan

Now you may look at the title of this post and say, "you are crazy". I hear him everywhere. This may-be true. But the question is have you completely investigated Bob Dylan?

I doubt this. Under all the trite songs await a complex discography. With soul, blues and the evolution of a man comes to front an image of a man who did not want to symbolize a nation. A man nominated for the nobel, in poetry. Considered one of Americas greatest accomplishments. All from a man who wrote the songs for himself, who confesses to not always knowing what his songs were about. Quite often he is more mysterious then revealing.

Bob has come to mean something very personal to me, a man that talks of a past that I have. A weary voice quite often with a guitar. His touch of creation and beauty are so direct with the most blunt of instruments. I often go through my day with Bob on all the time. I do not feel alone, I feel a beauty akin to tragedy. Something has been lost in some of us and all we can do is look back. We try to move on, we do and we are better for it. Yet I see the sun in a way, or I hear a song and I know that my past will forever keep me here, never there.

Quite often this is done in jest, as we will see here.

I'm looking for a place that will collect, clip, bath and return my dog. Kn1 7727, cigarettes and tobacco. Animals and birds bought or sold on commission. animals and birds bought or sold on commission. I want a dog that's gonna collect and clean my bath, return my cigarette, and, and give tobacco to my animals, and give my birds a commission. I want- I'm looking for somebody to sell my dog, collect my clip, buy my animal and straighten out my bird. I'm looking for a place to bathe my bird, buy my dog, collect my clip, sell me cigarrets and comission my bath. I'm looking for a place that's gonna collect my commission, sell my dog, burn my bird, and sell me to the cigarette. Going to bird my buy, collect my will, and bathe my comission. I'm looking for a place that's going to animal my soul, knit my return, bathe my foot and collect my dog. Comission me to sell my animals to the bird to clip and buy my bath and return me back to the cigarettes. -From No Direction Home

He turns the most plain of things into a point were we are lost in a beautiful tragedy, we want but dont have. So we play with what we have, words, action.

Often I will put on Bob in the cafe an people say 'who is this?'. You hear this from the customer either because they cant place it or because they like it. Quite often Bob accomplishes both of these with the most adept of ways. They often respond 'really? this is dylan? sounds like (arcade fire, decemberists)' etc...

Nope, just Bob.

So take a walk or drink a beer or cup o joe and plug in.

"If only if she was lying by me, I'd lie in my bed once again. I can't speak to show no signs of pain, as beauty in that silver signin river, as beauty in that rainbow in the sky, but none of these and nothing else can touch the beauty the beauty that i remember in my true loves eyes"

A good speech to hear on the subject...

Protesting Wall Street

It is funny to think that people actually think two things, that not everyone deserves equitable lifestyles and that we all deserve to be rich. What if we all just had enough? A house a job, health insurance etc...no mansions etc.

Can we not be happy with a normal life?

Great Music

One way I have found to evoke the necessary emotions and feelings to rediscover this world is the following. The song seems the best expression I have found for a movement in ones soul to beauty. The idea of beauty.

Some of the strongest emotions one can feel are at moments of intense peace. Walking alone during a rain storm while the sun shines down. Exploring the snow covered streets as little more then a muffle reaches your ears. You are left alone to see what is in you, what is in the world. You will see a great many things hopefully. This reflective exercise is not something that comes to one instantly. One must constantly try. Moving from the particular moments of insight to an eventual understanding of the whole idea.

One example of this is the Hellenistic idea of poesis. While we later derived the notion of poetry from this, it originally contained within the idea of creation. A carpenter, writer, and mother all created something, which could be a beautiful thing. It is our job to rekindle this, to create that which is beautiful again and again. For beauty in the particular sense dies, the painting does not last, the flower dies, youth fades. But we still can make beauty, it is an ever flowing spring that is inside of us. And as we create beautiful things, as we hear sounds that touch this beauty within us, as we read words of such worth we will have not looked at a particular, but instead have glanced at that which is beautiful.

The Clouds that gather round the setting sun
Do take a sober colouring from an eye
 That hath kept watch o'er man's mortality;
Another race hath been, and other palms are won.
Thanks to the human heart by which we live,
Thanks to its tenderness, its joys, and fears,
To me the meanest flower that blows can give
Thoughts that do often lie too deep for tears.
William Wordsworth

The Start

Some looks for scapegoats, others look for conspiracies, but this much is clear; violence breeds violence, repression brings retaliation, and only a cleaning of our whole society can remove this sickness from our soul.- Robert Kennedy

Quite often we find in our lives the absence of compassion. We see the cruelty of others in the conduct of our society. How may we learn from our experiences in this world and have a faith in the future amongst this? How does one see beauty in the world? How can we create the beauty? In our investigation for an answer we may create the answer, for it is not readily apparent to me now.
